What is O level/WAEC subject combination (requirement) for Economics – Under Social Science?
The subjects needed to study Economics in WAEC must contain five (5) credit. This subject combination is also applicable to NECO AND GCE… The O level requirement that is the compulsory WAEC subject combination for Economics must include

  1. English Language
  2. Mathematics
  3. Economics
  4. Any two of Arts or Social Science subjects
  5. A trade subject

You should aim for a score of 180 – 200 and above in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just an advice) because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME.   • Covenant University Ota accepts ND (Upper credit) in Marketing, Business Administration or Banking and Finance.
  •  Igbinedion University Okada accepts National Diploma (Lower Credit) in Accounting, Business Admin./ Banking and Finance; NCE in Economics, Mathematics or any other Social Science subject.
  •  Lagos State University, Ojo (LASU) requires A’ level pass in English Language.
  •  Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin accepts two A’ level passes in Economics and any other relevant subject.
  •  Crescent University (CUAB) requires two ‘A’ level passes to include Mathematics and either Economics or Accounting. Also accepts NCE/ND and approved equivalent of at least upper credit in relevant fields and IJMB at acceptable levels
  •  University of Jos (UNIJOS) does not require a credit pass in History and does not accept ND, HND and NCE as entry requirements.
  •  Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba does not accept Physics, Chemistry or Agric. Sc. but accepts National Diploma at Upper Credit level and HND at lower Credit level in a relevant discipline.

NCE in Economics and Mathematics with a minimum of 9 points.
  •  Southwestern University, Oku Owa accepts ND/HND or IJMB/NCE/ND/HND and any one from Government, Geography, Further Mathematics, and Economics history or approved equivalent.
  • Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) in addition to Direct Entry requirements, requires three additional O’ level credit passes in subjects other than those passed at advanced level.

  • University of Abuja, Gwagwalada accepts two A-level Credit Passes in Economics and any of Science, Social Science, Management subjects or History/Government or NCE(minimum 10 points) or ND with Upper Credit in relevant discipline in addition to the ‘O’ level requirements.
  •  Kings University, Ode Omu (UNIKINGS) accepts ND (lower credit) or NCE (merit) in relevant subjects.
  • Mcpherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ajebo accepts: a) ND upper credit in relevant fields. b) Foundation of professional examinations such as ICAN, ACCA, ICMA& CIBN.
  • Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu – Osun State accepts NCE with merit passes in relevant subjects.

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE, Special consideration (waiver) for Economics?

  •  University of Calabar (UNICAL) does not accept Commerce.
  • Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) requires Five ‘0’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography/ Government and any Arts or Social Science subject.
  • University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) accepts a pass in Mathematics, but such candidates will be required to pass a remedial course in Mathematics
  •  University of Lagos (UNILAG) accepts English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two of Arts, Social Sciences and Science subjects. Commerce is not accepted.
  •  Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) – same as Marketing.
  •  University of Ibadan (UI) requires 5 credit passes to include Mathematics, Economics and any two Arts or Social Science subjects.
  • Crescent University (CUAB) and Bayero University, Kano (BUK) accept two only Social Science subjects.
  •  University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT) requires Government, History or Geography.

  •  Salem University, Lokoja and Ekiti State University require Mathematics, Economics and one other Social Science subject.
  •  University of Lagos (UNILAG) requires Mathematics, Economics and any Arts, Science or Social Sciences subjects but does not accept Commerce, is not accepted.
  •  American University of Nigeria, Yola (AUN) Accepts any subject combination which includes Mathematics and any two of Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Literature in English, Government, History, Economics, Geography, Further Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Visual Arts, Computer Studies, Information Technology, Civics, and French.
  •  Abia State University, Uturu requires Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two subjects.
  •  Western Delta University, Oghara Delta State requires Economics, Mathematics and any of Government, History, Geography, Literature in English.
  • Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa State (FULAFIA), Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) requires Mathematics, Economics and Government.
  • Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja accepts Principle of Accounting or Commerce in lieu of Economics.
  • The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) requires one of Government, Commerce or Geography as the third subject.
  • Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State requires Mathematics, Economics and other Social Science or Arts subject.
  • Salem University, Lokoja for Criminology requires Government and any two of Economics, Geography and Literature in English.
  •  Michael Okpara University of Agricultural Umudike and Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja – Same as in Accounting.
  •  Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye accepts Mathematics/Economics and any two other Social Science subjects.
  • University of Abuja, Gwagwalada requires Economic, Mathematics, and any other subject in Social & Management Sciences.
  •  Lagos State University, Ojo (LASU) also accepts Commerce or Principles of Account.
  • Christopher University Mowe accepts Economics, Mathematics and any other subject. (xxix) Kogi State University Anyigba accepts Mathematics, Economics and any of Social Science or Commercial subject.
