What is O level/WAEC subject combination (requirement) for Accountancy/Finance/Accounting?
The subjects needed to study Accountancy/Finance/Accounting in WAEC must contain five (5) credit. This subject combination is also applicable to NECO AND GCE… The O level requirement that is the compulsory WAEC subject combination for Accountancy/Finance/Accounting must include

  1. English Language
  2. Mathematics
  3. Economics
  4. Two other relevant subject
  5. A trade subject

Accounting course prepares a student to be professional accountants, auditors, budget analysts, tax accountants, and to provide financial management services to individuals, businesses, and/or corporations (profit and not-for-profit). In today’s diverse, global, and technologically sophisticated accounting environment, these competencies are highly sought by employers. Through this program, students gain a practical knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, and professional practices used in today’s global accounting environment.

Students will also master the digitization of accounting data and technology that support international financial reporting.  The accounting student explores the fundamentals of accounting in two introductory courses and completes a sequence of higher-level courses that cover financial accounting theory, cost accounting, auditing, advanced accounting topics, federal income tax, business law, and accounting information systems. The program is results-oriented and extends beyond theories and conceptual understanding to practical application.

Accounting course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and practices, combining functional skills with a larger perspective of accounting’s role in business.

What is JAMB UTME subject combination (subjects needed) for Accountancy/Finance/Accounting?
You should aim for a score of 180 – 200 and above in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just an advice) because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME. Of course, if you have a score below 180, you can consider College of Education or Polytechnic… Please note – JAMB is not the only option for admission. What is Direct Entry special consideration (waiver) for Accountancy/Finance/Accounting?
(i) Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma accepts: (a) BSc, BA or HND in other discipline (b) ND (Upper Credit) in Accounting. (c) Foundation of ICAN

(iii) University of Ilorin (UNILORIN): (a) (for Accounting) accepts Diploma in Accounting and Data processing with Upper Credit, HND with minimum of Lower Credit, ND in Accountancy with Upper Credit or ND with Lower Credit with ICAN (ATS) or ICAN (ACA). (b) (for Business Administration) accepts National Diploma (ND) in Business Studies/Business Management with UPPER. CREDIT from recognized institutions. (c) (for Finance) requires A’ level passes (Not less than grade ‘C’) including Accounting and at least one of Mathematics, Business Management, Economics, Statistics, Geography and Government. At least 12 Points. Accepts ND in Banking and Finance with minimum of Upper Credit from recognized institutions in addition to meeting UTME requirements.

(vi) ECWA Bingham University, New Karu, Ajayi Crowther University, Ibadan (ACU) and Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma requires A’ level pass in Accounts. Accepts National Diploma in Accounting, Banking and Finance or Business Management from a recognised institution.

(vii) Crescent University (CUAB) (a) requires two ‘A’ Level passes to include Mathematics and either Economics or Account. (b) IJMB at acceptable grades. (c) NCE, ND, and approved equivalent of with at least lower credit may be admitted to the appropriate level.

(x) University of Jos (UNIJOS) accepts: (a) Two Principal and one subsidiary passes in any of the following subject: Principles of Accounts, Marketing, Finance, Economics, Government and Commerce. In addition to the IJMB/A/L candidates should have credit in three ‘O’ level subjects as per ‘ O’ level requirement other than the ones obtained at IJMB/A/L. (b) (i) Candidates must have completed from a recognised institution with a minimum of lower credit in any of the following fields of studies: Business Administration, Accounting, Accounting/Auditing, banking, Finance, Marketing, Purchasing and Supply, Actuarial Science/Insurance, Secretarial Administration, Office Management, Psychology, Public Business Studies, Administration, Catering and Hotel Management and Statistics, Financial Studies. (ii) In addition to the National or Higher National Diploma, candidates must have a minimum of five (5) credits in ‘O’ level subject as per ‘O’ level requirement in A above. (c) In addition to ‘O’ level requirement as per A above candidates must have at least a merit pass in any of the following: Business Education, Mathematics/Economics, Geography/Economics, Secretarial Studies, Financial Studies d. In addition to the ‘O’ level requirement as per A above, candidates must pass any of the following professional courses. I.C.A.N, CI.B., A.C.I.S., A.C.C.A., N.I.M. and C.M.A. Institute of Certified Public Accounting of Nigeria.

(xi) For Business Administration, Ajayi Crowther University, Ibadan (ACU) accepts A’ Level or equivalents in Economics and one of Business Management, Accounting, Statistics, Mathematics, Geography and Government plus ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language and Mathematics

(xii) Lagos State University, Ojo (LASU) accepts: (a) ND/HND not admissible for Direct Entry. (b) For Public Administration it requires Two ‘A’ level passes chosen from Economics, Accounts, Business Management, Government, Geography and Statistics. (c) For Marketing and Business Administration it requires two ‘A’ level passes chosen from Accounts, Business Management, Government, Geography, Business Methods and Economics. d. For Accounting it requires two A’ level passes chosen from Economics, Accounts, Business Management, Government and Mathematics. e. For Insurance it requires two A’ level passes chosen from Economics, Accounts, Business Management, Government, Geography and Statistics.

(xvi) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) accepts for three year programme (Direct Entry) candidates to possess any of the following qualifications: (a) Two GCE (A/L) passes or its equivalent in any of the following subjects: Government, History, Economics, Business Management, Accounting and Geography plus UTME requirements. (b) ND from recognized institutions in Law, Secretarial studies or its equivalent at merit level plus UTME requirements. (c) Higher National Diploma of recognized institutions with a minimum of merit/lower credit level passes plus UTME requirement.

(xvii) Benson Idahosa University, Benin City requires in addition to the O’ level requirements specified, a minimum of two relevant subjects passed at GCE Advanced level or NCE (3 merits) or National Diploma in relevant field not below credit level.

(xviii) Bowen University, Iwo accepts two ‘A’ level passes which must include Economics, IJMB/NCE/ND or approved equivalent in relevant subject(s).

(xix) Osun State University Osogbo (UNIOSUN) accepts (a) For Accounting ‘A’ Level passes in Economics and any one of the following subjects: Geography, Government and Accounting in addition to UTME requirement. ND and approved equivalents in relevant fields with at least a lower credit may be considered. ICAN ATS (Final level) and Foundation pass of recognized professional bodies i.e. ICAN, ACCA (London), CIMA (UK), CIBN, CITN and other members of IFAC may be considered. (b) For Business Administration ‘A’ Level passes in at least two (2) of the following subjects: Economics, Geography, Business Studies, Government, Accounting and Book-Keeping, in addition to UTME requirement. ND and approved equivalents in relevant fields with at least a lower credit may be considered.

(xxi) University of Calabar (UNICAL) accepts: (For Accounting) (a) University of Calabar (UNICAL), DBA, ND (Upper Credit) in relevant field; HND (lower credit) in relevant field (b) does not accept IJMB or A/L paper or NCE for Direct Entry.

(xxii) University of Calabar (UNICAL) accepts (For Marketing) (i) Two A’ level passes chosen from Economics or Mathematics, Government and Geography. ND in Business Administration. (ii) Does not accept IJMB and NCE

(xxiii) University of Calabar (UNICAL) accepts: (For Bus. Mgt) (i) ND in any Management area including Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Management, Marketing and Computer science at credit level or higher level. (ii) A/L in any three of Accounting, Business Management, Economic and Mathematics plus O/L credits in English Language, Mathematics, Commerce or Economic.

(xxiv) University of Benin (UNIBEN) – (For Accounting) In addition to UTME requirements, requires two A’ level passes in Accounting and Economics/Business Management; ND (Upper Credit)/HND (Lower Credit) in Accounting, Financial Studies or Business Management; First Degree (Second Class Lower) in any relevant discipline; NCE with credit pass in Accounting; ICAN (foundation) or its equivalent or Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administration (Final), HND (Upper credit) in Accounting is accepted into300level.

(xxv) University of Benin (UNIBEN) – (For Business Administration) Same as in Accounting but requires two ‘A’ level passes including Economics or Mathematics, requires ND (Upper Credit)/HND (Lower credit) in Accounting, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Marketing or Insurance or NCE ) with credit pass in Business Studies.

(v) University of Benin (UNIBEN) (for Insurance and Actuarial Science) accepts A. Applicant should possess five credit passes in the GCE or equivalent examination, at least two of which shall be at the Advance level or credit passes at least three of which shall be at the Advance Level provided that subjects are not counted at both levels of the examination. Credit passes at the Ordinary Level must include English and Mathematics. C. ND in relevant discipline with at least upper credit grade in addition to five credits passes. D. HND in relevant discipline with at least lower credit in addition to five credit passes. F. Final Certificate of relevant Professional Bodies in addition to five credit passes.

(vi) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria accepts two ‘A’ Level/IJMB passes in Management/Social Science Subjects one of which must be Economics.

(x) University of Benin (UNIBEN) (for marketing) accepts: (a) O’ level requirements plus two subjects at the GCE A/L or HSC, one of which should be Accounting and the other either Economics or Business Management. (b) In Exception cases the following Qualifications may also be considered bi. O’ level requirement plus a complete pass in the intermediate examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria or of any other equivalent Professional Accounting body or bii. O’ level requirement plus passes in all parts of the Associate ship Examination of the Institute of Bankers. or biii. O’ level requirement plus National Diploma in Marketing or any relevant subject (passes with minimum average of upper credit) from a recognized Polytechnic or College of Technology biv. O’ level requirement plus a higher National in any relevant subject awarded by a recognized Polytechnic or College of Technology. bv. O’ level requirement plus a bachelor’s degree in any subject awarded by a recognized University.

(xxvi) University of Calabar (UNICAL) accepts five credits, including English Language and Government, a pass in Mathematics, plus two ‘A’ level papers in the Social Sciences (a minimum of C).

(xxvii) Kwara State University, Ilorin (KWASU) accepts a) For Accounting IJMB, Cambridge ONLY, ND Accounting (Upper Credit), HND Accounting (Lower Credit) b) For Business Administration IJMB, Cambridge ONLY, ND Business Administration (Upper Credit), HND Business Administration (Lower Credit).

(xxviii) Paul University, Awka – Anambra State accepts two ‘A’ level passes chosen from Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Government and Geography.

(xxiv) Bells University of Technology, Otta accepts two A’ Level passes in any two of Chemistry, Economics, Geography and Mathematics.

(xxv) Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki accepts for Public Administration candidates with NCE, ND or HND, the candidates are expected to possess the relevant O’ level subject just like those being admitted through UTME.

(xxvi) Crawford University Igbesa accepts For Marketing (i) Two ‘A’ level passes in Economics or anyone of Business Management, Geography, Accounting Government, Mathematics or Statistics. (ii) NCE – With passes in Accounting, Business Studies or any Social Science (iii) ND/HND in relevant subjects not lower than Lower Credit.(iv) Crawford University Igbesa: For Accountancy (a) Two ‘A’ level passes including Economics plus anyone of Accounting, Government, Commerce, and Business Mgt. (b) NCE – With passes in Accounting, Business Studies or any Social Science (c) ND/HND in relevant subjects not lower than Lower Credit. For Business Administration (a) Two ‘A’ level passes in Economics and any one of Business Management, Geography, Accounting, Government, or Statistics (b) NCE – With at least Merit level in Business Management or any Social Science subjects. (c) ND/HND in relevant subjects not lower than Lower Credit.

(xxvii) Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (For Public Administration) requires two ‘A’ level passes including Government/History, Economics or any other Social Science subject.

(xxix) Western Delta University, Oghara Delta State accepts (For Accounting) a) Two ‘A’ Level passes including Economics and one other subject. b) NCE with at least merit passes in relevant subjects. c) National Diploma with at least lower credit passes in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration. Intermediate passes in ICAN, ACCA, ICMA and CIBN examinations

(xxx) Western Delta University, Oghara Delta State accepts (For Business Administration) a) Two ‘A’ passes in Economics and one other Social Science subject. b) National Diploma in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Marketing or Insurance, NCE in Business Studies

(xxxi) Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma a) For Accounting accepts A’ level or HSC pass in Economics or Business Management and at least one other subject, or ND/NCE (upper credit) in Accounting, Business Management Studies from an approved Polytechnics, College of Technology or College of Education. b) For Business Administration accepts A’ level or HSC pass in Economics or Business Management and at least one other subject or ND (Upper credit) in Business Administration from recognised Polytechnics.

(xxxi) Salem University, Lokoja requires A’ level passes in Mathematics and any other relevant subjects.

(xxxiii)Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) accepts ND (Upper Credit) in Business Administration, Accounting, Marketing, Insurance, Banking/Finance, Actuarial Science and Purchasing and Supply. Does not accept IJMB.

(xxxiv) Rhema University, Obeama-Asa – Rivers State accepts ND/HND in Accounting plus UTME requirements.

(xxxv) Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) requires A’ level passes in Accounting and at least one of Mathematics, Business Management, Economics and Government plus UTME requirement. It accepts ND (Upper Credit) in Accounting or Business Administration. It does not accept NCE.

(xxxvi) Godfrey Okoye University, Ugwuomu-Nike – Enugu State accepts (a) for Accounting BSc, BA or HND in other discipline, ND (Upper Credit) in Accounting, Foundation of ICAN. (b) For Business Administration two ‘A’ level passes in Economics and any one of Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Agric Science, Accounting, Business Management, History and Government. BSc, BA or HND in other discipline, ND (Upper Credit) in Business Administration. (c) For Marketing two ‘A’ level passes in Economics and any one of Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Agric Science, Accounting, Business Management, History and Government. BSc, BA or HND in other discipline, ND (Upper Credit) in Marketing.(d) For Public Administration; BA, BSc or HND or other disciplines, ND (Upper Credit) pass in Public or Business Administration.

(xxxvii) Umar Musa Yar’ Adua University Katsina (UMYU) requires (a) For Public Administration A’ level/NCE passes including Government/History and any other relevant subject with a minimum of 9 points. or HND/ND with Lower credit pass in relevant field (b) For Accounting two ‘A’ level credit passes in Economics and any of Science, Social Science and Management. or ND with credit passes in relevant subjects. (c) Business Administration requires HND/ND with credit pass in relevant field. NCE/A levels with a minimum of nine points in relevant field

(xxxviii) Renaissance University, Enugu accepts ND (credit) from a recognised institutions in related fields like Accountancy, Business Administration, Banking & Finance, Marketing plus UTME requirement.

(xxxix) Caleb University, Lagos (a) For Business Administration accepts ND at Credit level in Business Administration, Secretarial Studies or Social Sciences related studies may be considered for admission by direct entry provided they have the UME subjects at one sittings. (b) For Accounting accepts ND at Credit level in Accounting, Banking, Financial Studies or Social Sciences related studies may be considered for admission by direct entry provided they have the UME subjects at one sittings.

(xl) Niger Delta University Yenagoa (NDU) requires i. Candidates must possess at least two (2) Advanced level passes which must include Economics or: ii. National Diploma in a related discipline, with upper credit pass in addition iii. Candidates must satisfy the normal UME entry qualification of the ‘O’ level.

(xli) Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja accepts any two A’ level passes in Arts or Social Sciences subjects, ND/HND (lower credit) or NCE (merit) in relevant fields.

(xlii) Southwestern University, Oku Owa accepts (a) NCE with passes at merit level in relevant subjects. (b) Two ‘A’ level passes in Accounting or Economics and any one other subject. (c) Foundation of professional examination such as ICAN, ACCA, ICMA. (d) ND/HND with at least a lower credit pass in the relevant field. (e) IJMB/NCE/ND/HND/ATS of ICAN.

(xliii) Southwestern University, Oku Owa for Marketing accepts IJMB/NCE/ND/HND/ATS of ICAN or approved equivalent.

(xliv) University of Abuja, Gwagwalada for Public Administration accepts two A-level credit passes in Government or History, NCE (minimum 10 points) or ND with Upper Credit in relevant discipline in addition to the ‘O’ level requirements.

(xlv) Michael Okpara University of Agricultural Umudike requires two A’ level passes in Accounting and any other subject from Economics, Mathematics, Government. It Accepts NCE, ND, HND in relevant discipline with at least Lower Credit in addition to O’ level requirements.

(xlvi) Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos accepts: a) Two A’ level passes in any relevant subjects. b) ND/HND with lower credit passes in relevant courses.

(xlvii) Kings University, Ode Omu (UNIKINGS) accepts ND (lower credit) or NCE (merit) in relevant subjects.

(xlviii) Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu – Osun State accepts NCE with merit passes in relevant subjects.

(xlix) Christopher University Mowe requires two ‘A’ level passes chosen from Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Government, Statistics and Geography. Accepts HND, ND or NCE with credit passes in relevant subjects

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE, Special consideartion (Waiver) for Accountancy/Finance/Accounting?
(i) University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) requires ‘O; level credit passes in any three of Accounting, Business Method, Commerce, Geography, Economics, Statistics and Government.

(ii) Igbinedion University Okada accepts Financial Accounting in lieu of Economics.

(iii) Ajayi Crowther University, Ibadan (ACU) requires two other subjects from Accounting, Business Methods, Commerce, Geography and Government.

(iv) Renaissance University, Enugu and Crescent University (CUAB) accept Commerce in lieu of Economics.

(v) Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) requires two subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agric. Science and Geography.

(vi) Crescent University (CUAB): (a) for Business Administration requires Five (5) O’level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and any two of the following: Commerce, Geography and Statistics is required. (b) For Accounting requires five credits passes in SSCE/GCE/O’ Level/NECO which include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and any other two social science subjects at not more than two sittings.

(viii) Lagos State University, Ojo (LASU): (a) For Accounting it requires other two relevant subjects could be from any of Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Office Practice and Secretarial duties. (b) For Public Administration if requires ‘O’ Level credit to include English Language, Mathematics, Government, Economics and any one of Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Office Practice and Secretariat Studies. (c) For Business Administration it requires Five ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics plus any three of Economics, Accounting, Commerce, Government and Geography. (d) For Insurance, it requires Five ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Economics plus any two of Accounting, Business Method, Commerce, Government, Geography and Statistics. (e) For Marketing, it requires Five ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Economics plus any three of Business Method, Commerce, Book Keeping and Economics.

(ix) Covenant University Ota requires five ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, one science subject from the following (Biology, Health/ General Science, Agricultural Science, Physics and Chemistry) and either of Geography, Government, Accounting, Book Keeping and Commerce.

(xxxi) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) requires minimum entry requirement plus credit level pass in English Language, Government, or History and Mathematics at SSCE or GCE ‘O’ level.

(xxxii) Godfrey Okoye University, Ugwuomu-Nike – Enugu State accepts (a) For Business Administration and Marketing credit pass in Commerce in lieu of Economics. (b) For Public Administration five SSCE credit passes in English, Mathematics, Government or History or Commerce and two other subjects.
