What is O level/WAEC subject combination (requirement) for Veterinary Medicine?
The subjects needed to study Veterinary Medicine in WAEC must contain five (5) credit. This subject combination is also applicable to NECO AND GCE… The O level requirement that is the compulsory WAEC subject combination for Veterinary Medicine must include:

Few Nigerian students study this great course. It deals with the welfare of both domesticated and wild animals. It equips a student with knowledge of animal health and its likely effect on human, their diseases, treatment, and preventions. A degree in Veterinary Medicine generally involves 5 years of undergraduate study.

The curriculum will vary between universities, but generally speaking, the earlier years of the course will focus on structure and function of the healthy animal. This will include topics such as anatomy and physiology and involves learning about structure and function of cells, body tissues, body systems and the whole animal. At the same time, you will learn about animal husbandry (how to look after animals including how they should be housed and fed) and begin to learn the foundation clinical skills.

This degree is designed to train and prepare you for a career as a veterinary practitioner either in general practice or in a more specialised field such as small animal, farm animal, equine or exotic animal practice. It also prepares you for further training in a specialised clinical field. Examples of these would include orthopaedic surgery, cardiology, dentistry and soft tissue surgery.

You should aim for a score of 180 – 200 and above in JAMB UTME to be on a safe side (Just an advice) because anything short of that may deny you of Admission/Post UTME. Special Consideration
What is Direct Entry Special Consideration (waiver) to study Veterinary Medicine?
(i) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and University of Agriculture, Makurdi accept HND distinction in: (a) Poultry Production; (b) Animal Health; and (c) Animal Products Inspection.

(ii) University of Ibadan (UI) and Michael Okpara University of Agricultural Umudike accept ND/HND Animal Health and Husbandry provided candidates meet the following requirements:- (a) At least one year satisfactory practical experience; (b) Five ‘O’ level credit passes in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics and English Language.

(iii) University of Ibadan (UI) also requires ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, and Biology/Zoology with ‘O’ level credit passes in Physics and Mathematics. In special cases, candidates who have passed the Animal Health Assistant or its equivalent with distinction plus ‘O’ level credit passes in Chemistry, Biology and Physics or the equivalent may be considered for admission.

(iv) Usumanu Danfodiyo University (UDUSOK) accept ND/HND in relevant fields plus ‘O’ level credits passes in Chemistry and Biology and O/L passes in Mathematics and Physics. (v) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria accepts: (a) Three ‘A’ level passes in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics. (b) HND in Animal Science at minimum of lower credit from accredited institution

(vi) Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) requires at least HND (Upper Credit) to 200 level in addition to UTME requirements.

(vii) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) requires either (a) Passes at GCE A’ level or HSC or an equivalent examination in Chemistry, Biology and Physics in addition to UME requirement.

(vii) University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) requires A-level passes (with at least C grade) in any of the following; Biology/Zoology, Chemistry and Physics in addition to meeting the O’ level requirements above At least a minimum of 8 point. Special consideration may be given to candidates with Higher National Diploma in Animal Health and Husbandry, or Animal Production provided the diploma is passed at Upper credit level, in addition to meeting the O’ level requirements above or graduates of first degree in related Biosciences (Zoology, Biological Science, Animal Science or Production, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology, Nursing, Medicine, with a minimum of second class Lower division, in addition to meeting the O’ level requirements above.

(viii) University of Jos (UNIJOS) accepts: (a) Bachelor’s degree in relevant science discipline from recognised institutions (b) HND (Animal Health or Animal Production Technology or equivalent) at credit level (c) All candidates MUST have O’ level requirement.

(ix) University of Abuja, Gwagwalada accepts ND/HND(upper credit level) in Animal Health and Production or BSc in Animal Science, Biological sciences(Zoology), Microbiology, etc in addition to UTME Entry requirements

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE, Special Consideration (waiver) to study Veterinary Medicine?
(i) Usumanu Danfodiyo University (UDUSOK) accepts Agric. Science and Health Science.

(ii) University of Agriculture, Makurdi accepts Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology.

(iii) University of Ibadan (UI) requires 5/6 ‘O’ level credits passes to include English. Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and any other relevant subject.

What is JAMB UTME Special Consideration (waiver) to study Veterinary Medicine?
(i) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Usumanu Danfodiyo University (UDUSOK) accept Physics or Mathematics.
