Electrical & Electronics Engineering (Elect Elect), deals with the engineering problems, opportunities and needs of electrical, electronics, computer, telecommunication systems and related industries. This branch provides students with a wide range of fundamental knowledge in core disciplines such as communications, control systems, signal processing, radio frequency design, micro-processors, micro-electronics, power generation and electrical machines. The discipline focuses on design and manufacture of electrical, electronic devised, computers and their component parts, as well as on the integration of components into complex systems.

What does an Electrical / Electronics Engineer do?

Elect Elect Engineers focuses on the analysis, design, development and manufacture of electrical equipments, electronic devices, Mechatronics technologies, and automation and control systems

  • Electrical Engineers deal with power generation and transmission systems.
  • Elect Elect engineers, design circuits for electrically operated vehicles, computers, digital devices, electronic memory storage devices, industrial robots and CNC machines.

(i) University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT) and Niger Delta University Yenagoa (NDU) – No Direct Entry.

(ii) Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti – Ekiti State and Cross River State University of Science &Technology, Calabar (CRUTECH) – same as in Civil Engineering

(iii) Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) accepts 1st Degree in relevant fields

(iv) Bauchi State University, Gadau, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) do not accept P.7 in English Language (v) Michael Okpara University of Agricultural Umudike and Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye accept ND/HND into appropriate levels plus UTME requirements.

(vii) Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja and University of Uyo – Same as in Computer Engineering

(viii) Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY) accepts: (a) GCE `A’ level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (b) Upper credit in ND (Electrical/Electronics Engineering) (c) HND (Electrical/Electronics Engineering)

(xii) Federal University of Technology, Akure accepts ND (Upper Credit) or equivalent professional qualification in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or related discipline or )  Good passes at the Advanced Level of General Certificate of Education or its equivalent in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics..

(xiii)   Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) and Bauchi State University, Gadau accept ND and HND in relevant field with UTME requirements.

(xiv)  University of Benin (UNIBEN) and University of Lagos (UNILAG) – Same as in Chemical Engineering.

(xv) Niger Delta University Yenagoa (NDU), University of Agriculture, Makurdi and Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) – Same as in Agricultural Engineering.

(xvii) Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) accepts: (a) GCE ‘A’ Level Passes in Pure Mathematics, Physics, Applied Mathematics or Chemistry.   (b)  ND with Upper Credit/ HND in Computer Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (plus UTME requirements)  may be considered for admission into 200 level.

(xviii) Federal University of Technology, Akure accepts ND at Upper Credit level or other  equivalent professional qualification in the relevant discipline   or Good passes at the Advanced Level of General Certificate of Education or its equivalent in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

(xix) Osun State University Osogbo (UNIOSUN) accepts ND (lower credit) in Electrical/Electronics.

(xx) Bells University of Technology, Otta same as in Computer Engineering.

(xxi) University of Ibadan (UI) – As in Agric & Environmental Engineering.

(xxii) University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) requires ‘A’ level passes in Physic, Mathematics and Chemistry. Accepts ND/HND upper credit in relevant subjects, plus one year post ND/HND experience.

(xxii)  Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State – Same as in Mechanical Engineering.

(xxiii) Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) accepts GCE `A’ Level credit in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or equivalent. It accepts ND (Upper Credit) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or relevant disciplines.

(xxiv) Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna (NDA) requires the other Science subject from Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Biology and Geography.

(xxv) University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) – Same as in Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering.

(xxvi) University of Jos (UNIJOS) requires ‘A’ level or IJMB passes in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. It also accepts ND (credit level) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution may be considered provided the candidate has credit in Mathematics at O’ level.

(xxvii) Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) requires at least two ‘A’ Level passes not below Grade C in Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry.  It also accepts ND/HND (Upper Credit) in Engineering.  Candidates must in addition meet UTME ‘O’ Level requirements. It does not accept First Degree or NCE

What is WAEC, NECO, GCE special consideration (waiver) for Electrical / Electronics Engineering?
(i) Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli and Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ESUT) accept a pass in English Language.

(ii) University of Uyo – As in Computer Engineering

(iii) Niger Delta University Yenagoa (NDU) requires five ‘O’ level credit in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other subject in not more than two sittings.

(iv) Ondo State University of Science and Technology Okitipupa (OSUSTECH) and University of Lagos (UNILAG) require credit in Further Mathematics.

(v) University of Ibadan (UI) and University of Agriculture, Makurdi – Same as Agric. & Environmental Engineering.

(vi) COVENAT requires O/L five credit in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and either of Further Mathematics, Biology or Technical Drawing.

(vii) Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja accepts English Language, Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry and any other two Science subjects.

(viii) Federal University of Technology, Akure requires at least five credit in subjects which include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at NOT more than two (2) sittings..

(xi) Bells University of Technology, Otta same as in Computer Engineering.

(x) Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja accepts credit in Geography as the fifth Science subject.

(xi) Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) requires credit in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.
